  • A trade union for Berlin nightclub workers has been formed. Launched in December, Berliner Clubarbeitenden Gewerkschaft aims to give all members of the city's club scene a voice, and hopes to become a platform where staff can negotiate for better pay and conditions. Speaking to Resident Advisor, a spokesperson pointed to a "systemic burnout of workers and a hire-to-fire mentality," as the primary reasons for starting the union. "We're forming this union to provide support for club workers against often predatory management practices, such as union busting or wrongful terminations," they said. "We'll be offering accessible legal guidance, sharing our experiences on specific issues and actively monitoring working conditions in the club scene. When a worker encounters difficulties in a club, challenging such an institution can seem daunting, so we aim to serve as a valuable source of information and support." While Berliner Clubarbeitenden Gewerkschaft said it has "support and members in almost every Berlin techno club," the union declined to mention any clubs by name at this point, in order to protect its members. Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to reach out via Instagram. The union is also planning a rave demonstration parade for Labour Day (May 1st). Browse Instagram for more information.
