  • DJ and videographer Nour has launched a fundraiser to help build an "interactive archival website" for preserving the stories of people who witnessed the forced displacement of 750,000 Palestinians in 1948—AKA the Nakba. Launched last Sunday, January 22nd, the campaign aims to raise more than £20,000 by February 20th. The money will go towards building the Refugee Chronicles Interactive Map Project, which will fold 50-plus video conversations with Palestinian elders into a pre-1948 map dotted with villages impacted by the Nakba. "Once you click the location on the map, an elder's video testimonial will pop up and you can hear their tales of displacement, survival and memories of villages that no longer exist," she told Resident Advisor. Nour added that it's important to "immortalise the Palestinian struggle" and document these narratives before the elders "fade away." She said her project also highlights parallels between the elders' stories and the current climate in Gaza—which one Israeli minister has called "Nakba 2023." "This ongoing situation highlights the continuous nature of this historic event, showcasing how the Nakba persists and hasn't concluded," Nour said. Support the fundraiser, and browse Instagram to hear from Nour and watch clips of interviews with Palestinian elders.
