  • Indian festival Echoes of Earth is expanding from Bengaluru to Goa this year. The debut Goa edition will take place from February 2nd through 4th in Chopdem in the north of the coastal state. Highlights on the lineup include Space Dimension Controller, Alexander Robotnick, Kareem Ali, Shubostar, Millie McKee and Noisy Pots. Anushka, Dualist Inquiry, Rafiki and Discokid are among the local artists on the bill. Speaking to Resident Advisor, curator and booker Sohail Arora (AKA Rafiki) said the festival's programming focuses on the musical history of each location. For the last six years, the Bengaluru gathering has placed an emphasis on live acts due to the city's "rich history of Carnatic music and rock & roll," booking acts like Shigeto, Squarepusher and The Yussef Dayes Experience. Goa, on the other hand, "with its Portuguese roots and love for psytrance in the '80s, has had more of a Western music influence," Arora explained, adding that the Goa location is "more in synch with the sustainability ethos of the festival." The schedule in Goa includes several conservation activities as part of the festival's goal to raise environmental awareness. These include bee-keeping workshops and expeditions on coastal ecology, reptiles, mangroves, dragonflies, butterflies and birdwatching. "We're witnessing a rapid degradation of [natural] resources,” festival director Roshan Netalkar, told RA. "We want the festival to celebrate not just music, but also nature and the responsibility that comes with conserving it." Here's the lineup so far.
