  • Iasos, the Greek-born US composer and pioneer of New Age music, has died aged 77. The news was broken by Iasos's friend and fellow musician Carlos Niño, who shared a message through the Instagram page of Yoga Records founder Douglas McGowan. "Our dearest brother, friend, guide, mentor, inspiration and great visionary of celestial paradise music has transitioned from his earth body today, January 6th, 2024," the post read. The cause of death wasn't disclosed. Born in Greece and raised in upstate New York, Iasos is best known for his 1975 debut album, Inter-Dimensional Music, which is considered one of the first New Age LPs. After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in cultural anthropology, he began working on music that he would internally hear, describing it as "paradise music." A 1989 study found that his track "The Angels Of Comfort" closely resembled the music heard by people who'd had near-death experiences. Iasos produced more than 15 albums throughout his career, and a documentary was released about his work in 1979. His final release, The Garden of Salathooslia, was released as recently as last September. Listen to Inter-Dimensional Music, and read some social media tributes.
