  • A grassroots Kampala music school for economically disadvantaged youth is raising funds for a permanent home. Homeland Brass Band is aiming to raise $20,000 to cover the costs of the new residence, plus equipment and school fees. The school has also released a short documentary, directed by Marion Desmaret, focusing on the projects it undertakes. Homeland Brass Band was started in 2015 by Florence Lugemwa, AKA DJ Flo, who's one third of local collective HHY & The Kampala Unit. It now owns over 20 instruments and caters to 25 children, many of whom were orphans living on the streets. The band perform regularly across the city, and also played the last two editions of Nyege Nyege Festival. Watch the documentary, and donate to the campaign.
