  • UK firm ROLI has unveiled the Seaboard Block M, a mobile version of its Seaboard MIDI controller. ROLI has pioneered keyboards that offer MIDI polyphonic expression—a highly nuanced way to control electronic instruments. Its devices allow you to send MIDI information with a range of gestures such as dragging your fingers down keys or wiggling keys left and right. These gestures can be mapped to different parameters to add a wide range of expression or modulation to sounds. The Seaboard Block M has two octaves of silicon keys and comes with a MIDI out port, meaning you can use it to control hardware instruments directly, even without a computer in your setup. Other new features include improved velocity response, ten hours of battery life and a 15-meter Bluetooth range. Like ROLI's previous Seaboard Block model, you can snap two or more Seaboard Block Ms together to give you a wider octave range and a larger playing surface. Watch a video about the Seaboard Block M.
The Seaboard Block M can be pre-ordered now for $349.95, £299.95 or €349.95 and is expected to ship in March 2024. Shipping is currently only available to the US, Canada, the UK and Europe.
