  • Technics is releasing new SL-1200 and SL-1210 turntables. The Japanese brand says the SL-1200GR2 offers a much quieter power supply with added noise cancelling, plus a new, smoother drive control to eradicate vibrations on the platter. The turntable has an iron-coreless direct-drive motor controlled by a pulse-width modulation signal. The signal is generated by Technics' Delta Sigma technology, which the brand says produces a perfect sine wave to reduce vibrations in the motor. According to Technics, this means improved tracking, more accurate rotational stability and a lower noise floor. The aesthetics have also been mildly updated, with a black tonearm and buttons on the 1210GR2 and more silver elements on the 1200GR2. Technics has also changed its packaging to eliminate polystyrene in favour of more sustainable cardboard. This is the first major update to the SL range since the 1200 Mk7 came out in 2019. The G series is the more premium line of Technics' direct-drive turntables. The original GR came out in 2017. Watch a video about the SL-1200GR2.
The Technics SL-1200GR2 will be available in October in Europe priced £1,799 / €1,999 and in December in the US, priced $2,199.
