  • Resident Advisor and Doors Open are bringing back their free music- and career-development project Access All Areas for 2023. Taking place at the Rose Lipman Community Centre in East London on October 7th, Access All Areas 2.0 will host twice as many attendees as last year. There will be sessions geared towards helping people better understand the music industry ecosystem and identify possible career paths, as well as a panel on networking and a masterclass on best practices when applying for roles. Access All Areas 2.0 will be hosted by RA chief impact and culture officer Amy Van-Baaren and renowned educator, RA board member and CDR founder Tony Nwachukwu. They'll be joined by various new guest speakers: artist manager Sarah Aitchison; cofounders of HE.SHE.THEY., Sophia Kearney and Steven Braines; Universal Music Publishing's Dane Bradshaw; NTS Radio programming director, Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura; Genevieve Taylor, owner of Glisten PR; RA's senior social media content creator, Whitney Ajayi and RA's people & culture manager, Bella Catling. Some of last year's speakers are also returning, with slots for DJ, broadcaster, creative producer and podcast host Vanessa Maria; RA's senior producer, Chloe Lula; RA's head of people and culture, Mike Zinkiewich, and Elijah, who will talk about his Yellow Squares project. The sessions will aim to tackle the electronic music scene's lack of diversity by demystifying the music industry and the roles within it. A 2022 study found that just 16-percent of people in creative jobs are from working-class backgrounds. Access All Areas is open to anyone with a keen interest in working in the music industry. No prior experience is required. Priority will be given to people from underrepresented groups, such as those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, women and people of minority genders, POC and LGBTQIA+ folks. Lunch will be provided and travel bursaries are available on request. Spots are limited. The deadline for applying is Monday, September 18th. Sign up now. Launched in 2019, Doors Open is RA's non-profit music industry jobs board. Browse the current vacancies.
