Rotterdam's POING CLUB to close in February

- Rotterdam's POING CLUB is closing down once its lease expires in February. In a statement shared with Resident Advisor, the venue cited debts accrued during Covid-19 lockdown, soaring operational costs and reduced bar takings as factors contributing to its demise. "Even though things were going well on the surface, we faced a lot of financial problems due to the giant Covid-19 debts, as well as the piling up costs of the long-neglected maintenance of the building," the statement read. "We reinvested a lot, we renewed bars, DJ booths, sound systems and light plans. All with the vision to earn back these investments over the next few years to come." The statement continued: "On the downside of that, we did see our operating costs rising due to our ambitious plans. The average spending of our crowd per night was going down. The trend of the world around us becoming more and more expensive had negative effects on us, just like on everyone else. We would have been able to keep on going if it wasn't for the giant Covid-19 debts that now need to be paid back immediately. This all together is causing a stressful and unreliable work flow." POING also revealed that the current premises is soon to be demolished "and developed into something new." But cofounders Eef and Mark are hopeful the club will find a new home at a different location in the city. The pair are "very busy making plans for the future, because Rotterdam needs POING CLUB," the statement continued. "We could use all help with finding a new location so our core team can start somewhere else with a clean slate." Launched in 2022, POING CLUB incorporates a club space, bar, kitchen and video game arcade. The venue will host the likes of Spekki Webu, Woody92 and Rosa Pistola before the end of the month.
