  • Edinburgh is getting a new record shop. Located on Valleyfield Street in the city centre, Umbrella Vinyl launches this Saturday, August 5th. Run by three friends who first met in 2015 while living in Hong Kong, the shop will specialise in genres like jazz, blues, soul, Latin, Afrobeat, dub and library music. "We'll offer an unparalleled selection of rare and exciting records from around the globe to suit all budgets," the trio told Resident Advisor. "We have connections globally to source vinyl, and hope to offer a comfortable, welcoming, inclusive space for everybody who loves music—and even those who don't." All three founders have experience in the field. Nick founded a monthly record fair in Hong Kong in 2017 and started his own label, Vintage Vinyl Hong Kong, in 2018. Josh and Laura have been hosting a vinyl-only radio show, Vinyl Voyages, since 2016, firstly in Hong Kong and then on Edinburgh community station EH-FM. "We've hunted for records all over the world and we know what makes a good store memorable," they continued. "We want to create an inclusive, accessible and comfortable space to share our love of music with the community. A place where digging for records is a pleasurable experience."
