  • The city of Amsterdam is working on implementing 15 measures to improve its night culture. As confirmed via press materials from the city, its top priority is finding alternative options to fulfill its lack of space for nightlife. Amsterdam will be working with developers, landowners and private individuals to find spaces—including garages, empty tunnels and bomb shelters—to turn into new temporary or permanent venues. There will also be a fund for sound insulation to limit noise complaints in residential areas. With tourist attractions such as Paradiso and Amsterdam Dance Event, Amsterdam recognises night culture is integral to its economy. Over the next four years, the municipality will reserve €2.2 million to support the agenda. Next year, it will work alongside the Amsterdam Fonds de Kunst, a fund for culture and arts in the city, to allocate €1.2 million to develop young creatives who aim to organise and create nightlife business. "Due to lack of space, rising costs and temporary leases, the night culture is under pressure," Councilor Touria Meliani said in a press statement. "As a municipality, we cannot solve all of them, but with this implementation agenda we move forward together working on an accessible night culture that remains attractive and safe for all visitors, artists, entrepreneurs and organisers."
