One of Yamaha's most successful and loved synths is being taken off the market.
The Montage workstation debuted in 2016 as Yamaha's top-spec keyboard. However, in recent years the company has faced difficulties sourcing components and many stores have been unable to attain new Montage stock.
This week Yamaha announced the immediate end of the Montage line, saying it was unable to develop the workstation any further. However, the Japanese company teased the release of a new line of synths, saying a Montage replacement would be revealed this October.
Due to a leaked patent application last year, there is speculation that the new workstation will feature analogue-modelling technology and perhaps signal a return to more retro-sounding synthesis technology.
