Techno legend Carl Craig caps off his string of 2006 production successes with a record release party at the Smart Bar in Chicago. Unmissable.
Unlike many of his fellow Detroit legends, as a producer Carl Craig still runs with the best of them. He's had a run of great productions in 2005/2006 including his brilliant 'Just Another Day' EP and his ubiquitious reworking of Theo Parrish’s ‘Falling Up’. Newies this month include a remix of Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom’s ‘Revelee’, a slew of Goldfrapp ‘Fly Me Away’ remixes as well as a superfine take on dub techno legends Rhythm & Sound’s ‘See Me Yah’. Does this man ever sleep?
Supporting CC at the Demon Days night is Gamall, veteran of Rude Movements and The Gardening Club in SF. For Demon Days, Gamall steps up with a new set that incorporates a laptop and Ableton Live. Gamall told RA:
“in many ways my role in Demon Days is to just be like a head cleaner. I’m there to set the stage for Carl to really expand people's headspace.”
Launched in September 2005 with back-to-back parties in New York and Chicago, Demon Days has so far taken on New York, Chicago and Detroit and will expand into San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and this autumn. Carl Craig on the idea behind Demon Days:
“We're trying to do something different. We named it Demon Days because it seemed fitting with everything that's happening right now, which is all quite dark – you know, wars and hurricanes and all this crazy stuff. It's like before the twenty-first century we had the centuries of Christ, and now we're in the millennium of... evil! (laughs). Dark, yes, but I mean... it's still a party!”
