  • Two new MIDI controllers have hit the market. They were designed by Swedish musician and multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Mullaert and created by Yaeltex, which is boutique controller brand based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Conductor is like a 12-channel mixing desk that gives you a very tactile way to play with different elements of a track, with encoders and potentiometers that can be assigned to FX, EQs or anything else in a DAW. Jammer is used for playing instruments (software or MIDI hardware), building sequences and adding FX. It also has an inbuilt looper so can rapidly sample and loop snatches of audio, and it can act as a mixing desk for an entire live set-up. The controllers can be used individually or together and there is an Ableton Live template put together by Mullaert demonstrating the way he uses the set-up. Known for the creativity of his live performances, Mullaert says he designed the two machines to offer maximum freedom and improvisational power to musicians and live performers. Yaeltex was formed in 2016 and makes controllers for music, video and lighting that have been used by producers including Richie Hawtin, Chemical Brothers, Innellea, Satori, Jacques and Thylacine. You can design your own controller – both the layout and the look – on the Yaeltex website, and they will build it for you. Watch a video about Yaeltex.
Conductor and Jammer are both available now, priced $1,173 and $1,089, respectively, or $2,148 for the pair.
