  • Rave The Planet Parade might no longer go ahead this weekend. Announced at a press conference on Monday, July 3rd, organisers revealed that the medical provider due to work the event, Malteser Sanitätsdienst, had unexpectedly cancelled, making the event untenable. Malteser Sanitätsdienst immediately responded with a statement rejecting the idea that it had ever been officially confirmed to work the parade. "We firmly reject the claims of Rave the Planet gGmbH, they do not correspond to the facts," the statement read. "There was no official assignment and there is no contract for medical services with Rave the Planet gGmbH. There were also no verbal commitments to provide medical services at any time." Malteser Sanitätsdienst added that "important preliminary questions and commitments from third parties were missing," something that the organisation has "consistently pointed out." Rave The Planet then issued a statement of its own, insisting that Malteser Sanitätsdienst had reached out in March asking to work the event, before breaking off contact in late June. The statement also implied that Berlin aid organisations have chosen to collectively take a stand against Rave The Planet by refusing to cooperate or offer their services for the event. Speaking to Resident Advisor, Rave The Planet's creative director, Ellen Dosch-Roeingh, said the organisers "are confident that a collaborative solution will be found with the medical services, and the demonstration can proceed as planned on Saturday." However, a replacement medical provider has yet to be confirmed with the parade just three days away. A new incarnation of the iconic Love Parade, Rave The Planet debuted last summer, with more than 200,000 people in attendance. The second edition, set to take place this Saturday, July 8th, is expected to welcome up to 300,000 attendees. Performers include Alan Oldham, Anja Schneider, Gabber Eleganza and Westbam. We'll continue to report on this story as it develops.
