  • Ongoing unrest has forced the cancellation of a number of electronic music events this weekend across France. The Madame Loyale one-day festival, which was due to take place Saturday at Le Village du Cirque Micheletty with Mind Against, Âme, Trikk and others, was called off. The Beat and Beer Festival, a two-day event that featured Celyon, René Danger, Futuro and Sangre Voss, was also shelved. It had been scheduled to take place at the Maison des Arts Centre D'art Contemporain de Malakoff in Montrouge, just outside Paris, on Friday and Saturday. Feel Free Records also cancelled its party, Silence Ça Rave, at the Chalet du Lac on Friday night, and promoter 100Canap postponed its Insomnia night, which was due to happen at a secret location, also on Friday. The final day of Fnac Live, a free annual event that has been held in Paris for the past 11 years, was also called off on Saturday. Artists including Aime Simone, Hervè and Ofenbach had been due to appear. On Friday, the French government ordered all buses and trams to shut down at 9 PM across the nation. The measures were repeated in Paris on Saturday, while public transport was also stopped at 7 PM in Marseille and 8 PM in Lyon. Rioting has gripped France since a 17-year-old man, known only by his first name Nahel, was shot dead by a police officer on Tuesday in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre. Hundreds of buildings and thousands of cars have been set alight in four straight nights of protests. Police have come under attack in towns and cities across the nation and have made over 1,500 arrests. This story is evolving and will be updated as more information becomes available.
