  • Bandcamp's union, Bandcamp United, can now gain certification by US federal authorities. In an election held today, May 19th, a majority of the company's eligible US employees voted in favour to form a union. The vote allows Bandcamp United to obtain official approval by the National Labor Relations Board and paves the way for union members to negotiate contracts, including pay, benefits, hours, leave and other policies. In an Instagram statement, Bandcamp United noted that 16 ballots were contested by leadership, meaning those ballots weren't counted in the vote. "We will not leave our colleagues behind & plan to fight for the inclusion of everyone who is eligible in our union," the statement said. Bandcamp's US workers announced they were planning to form the union on March 17th. The company was later accused of hiring a law firm known for union busting but CEO Ethan Diamond later told Resident Advisor that Bandcamp would "respect the election outcome" and "negotiate in good faith" if a union forms.
