  • Seoul-based producer Lionclad has teamed up with Roland to create a free pack of beats. Entitled Messy Samples, it's the first in a series curated by Roland to support finger-drumming and sample-focused artists. The packs come with complimentary lessons from Melodics, an online platform that teaches musicians how to play various instruments. Lionclad's sample pack includes 128 WAV files with eight banks of ready-to-play loops, one-shot samples and glitchy ear candy. They have been designed for Roland's popular SP-404 portable workstation, but will work with any DAW or hardware sampler. The samples are free to download but you need a Roland account and Roland Cloud Manager, which is a free piece of software for activating the firm's plugin synths and effects. Two companion lessons are available on Melodics, called "Wine Down" and "Morning Coffee." They focus on finger drumming and electronic percussion. Roland plans to release five more beat maker sample packs in the coming months, each with accompanying lessons from Melodics about the SP-404. Listen to a demo track from Lionclad created with the sample pack.
