  • Kool FM, the legendary former pirate station recently acquired by Rinse FM, has announced its artist roster ahead of this Sunday's relaunch. Running out of Rinse FM's Hoxton studio, the new-look platform will broadcast jungle and drum & bass 24/7 across Rinse FM DAB and 106.8 London. The roster includes Nia Archives, DJ Hype, Andy C, DJ Flight, DJ Storm, Fabio & Grooverider, DJ Rupture and Congo Natty. They'll join fresher acts like TurnoVXRGOSigma, Sweetpea and Benny L. Rinse FM confirmed the takeover in January after Kool FM's cofounders Eastman and Susie G stepped down on New Year's Eve. Eastman will continue to work behind the scenes at the new station, while two of its original residents—DJ Brockie & MC Det—will also return. "I'm over the moon we're going legal," DJ Brockie said.

"It's such a great achievement from the flats to now. I've waited 31 years for this to happen, I have always stayed loyal. Kool means everything to me that's why I never left and gave 31 years of my life. Here's to the future." Kool FM was launched in 1991 by Eastman and Smurf, who eventually left in 1998. The station broadcast the latest hardcore, jungle and drum & bass from the rooftops of Hackney council estates, boosting the careers of countless DJs and MCs. It also inspired a young Geeneus to set up Rinse FM.   Earlier today, Rinse FM announced the acquisition of another station, Bristol's SWU.FM, which hasn't broadcast since September.

More details are expected in the coming months. Here's Kool FM's roster in full.
