  • Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn, a new sound space in New York's Williamsburg neighbourhood, is opening its doors this Thursday, March 16th. Located on the first floor of the recently opened Moxy Williamsburg hotel, the single-room venue is accessible through a separate entrance on Bedford Avenue. The bespoke sound system was developed by Nicolas Matar and Scott Ciungan of Phonic Technologies, the same team behind the sound at legendary New York clubs Cielo and Output, as well as new spot Outer Heaven. Speaking to Resident Advisor, music director and Brooklyn-based artist Will Buck said it was a top priority for the venue to showcase vital New York DJs in its early days. "My approach with the initial lineup was to bring all my favourite DJs and parties from the scene here in Brooklyn as well as mix established New York legends with younger, buzzing up-and-coming acts," Buck said. The programme for the coming weeks includes Analog Soul, DJ Spinna, Eli Escobar, Mike Servito, Justin Strauss, Seven Davis Jr and Toribio. Jolene Sound Room Brooklyn is a collaboration between Gabriel Orta and Elad Zvi of Bar Lab Hospitality and Davide Danese, Coloma Kaboomsky and David Sinopoli of Link Miami Rebels and Space Invaders. The latter trio has owned and operated Miami's Club Space since 2016. According to Sinopoli, Jolene was first conceived of as a nearby, intimate alternative to the maximalist dance floor experience offered by Space. Due to unforeseen delays, the original downtown Miami location is opening after its New York counterpart—it's set to finally welcome attendees within the next three months with musical direction provided by Miami-based selector and producer DJ Ray. "This is an opportunity to take the years of work we've been doing on the programming end and put them in a fine-tuned box with other masters of their craft," Sinopoli said. As a veteran of Miami nightlife, he welcomes the opportunity to "relearn the aspects that made us successful in Miami," in New York. He added: "There's so much history in this city that has inspired me many times over and we want to pay homage to all of it. I want [Jolene] to have a connection to New York City as a whole, but really, specifically, to Brooklyn." Find out more about the opening parties via the event listings below.
