Deena Abdelwahed will release her original score for Tunisian play Flagranti as an EP.
Out on February 3rd via Shouka, a label that specialises in North African electronic and traditional music, Flagranti - Original Soundtrack spans four tracks of uncompromising, experimental club music.
Premiered in Tunis last year, Flagranti is a queer fiction centred around the alarming reality faced by the Tunisian LGBTQI+ community. Abdelwahed's propulsive score helps communicate the themes of violence, homophobia and injustice that underpin the play.
Tunis-born Abdelwahed received critical acclaim for her 2018 debut album Khonnar. More recently, she featured on a fabric compilation and remixed a track from Tuareg guitar pioneers Tinariwen.
