patten's new album is the first made entirely from text-to-audio AI-generated sound sources.
Landing via the London artist's 555-5555 imprint on April 14th, Mirage FM was created using Riffusion, a neural network where AI generates sounds from written descriptions provided by the user. patten used the recordings from these sessions as building blocks for tracks. The LP spans 21 cuts of pop, ambient, opera, hip-hop, grime, R&B and more.
Mirage FM is patten's third album release on 555-5555, following 2020's Aegis and 2019's FLEX. Before those, he put out a trio of records–Ψ, ESTOILE NAIANT and EOLIAN INSTATE–on Warp.
A musician, visual artist, designer and cultural researcher, patten is also responsible for numerous soundtracks, live commissions and visual art projects. He recently created the visuals for Caribou's live show.
