  • Stream a new documentary about the history of Birmingham's Que Club. Created by music historian and researcher Jez Collins of the Birmingham Music Archive, In The Que features interviews with many of the DJs and promoters who worked with The Que Club in the early '90s, including Surgeon, MC Magika, Mistress Mo and Rebekah. The film was originally slated for release in May 2022 and was first shown last year during an exhibition about the club that ran from April until November at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Opened in 1989 in a former Methodist church, The Que Club rapidly became the centre of Birmingham's club culture, with nights such as Atomic Jam, Flashback, House Of God, Logical Progression and The Bubble Club. Carl Cox, David Holmes, Grooverider, Paul Oakenfold, Underworld, Massive Attack, Pete Tong and Andrew Weatherall all played here, and Daft Punk's first live album, Alive 1997, was recorded at the venue. The Que Club closed permanently in 2017 and the Grade II-listed building where it was located is now vacant. In The Que was create to preserve the cultural importance of the club and the nights it hosted, and was funded in part by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Watch the documentary.
