  • Primal Scream keyboard player Martin Duffy has died aged 55. The news was confirmed earlier today, December 20th, by Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, another band Duffy played with. "Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul," the post read. The BBC later disclosed that Duffy suffered a brain injury after a fall and died peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Birmingham, UK, in 1967, Duffy started out as an original member of cult indie band Felt in the mid-'80s, before joining Primal Scream after Felt's disbandment. He played keyboard on all of the Primal Scream albums, including 1991's critically acclaimed Screamadelica. Duffy also collaborated with The Chemical Brothers, Adrian Sherwood, Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser, Paul Weller, Vic Godard, Mark Stewart, Beth Orton and Oasis. In an interview with The Quietus in 2011, Burgess said Duffy was "the only musical genius I have ever met." Watch Primal Scream perform "Star" live on Jools Holland, and read some tributes on social media.
