  • Two of Kyiv's most cherished nightclubs are hosting parties this weekend against the odds. Due to the capital's ongoing curfew—which bans nightlife between 11 PM and 5 AM—Closer and (AKA K41) are opening and closing early. Both clubs are also using alternative energy sources after a spate of power outages hit the city this week, caused by a fresh wave of Russian attacks. Closer is celebrating its ninth anniversary with three events, starting with a live performance by Si Process this evening, October 14th. The Saturday (2 PM through 9 PM) and Sunday (7 AM through 9 PM) parties will run longer. For the first time since the war began in February, foreign artists are making the trip. Among the acts playing are Roman K, Bruno Schmidt and Alex Savage. "No matter what, all three events will take place," Closer told Resident Advisor. "Our foreign guests decided to come this long way and perform—it's around 28 hours one way. Also, we came up with a solution with light and electricity, because after the shelling there were problems with this." The event at ∄ is community-focussed and more low-key, starting at 2 PM on Saturday, October 15th. Local DJs human margareeta (who works part-time at RA) and CANTRUST are performing. All proceeds from the event—which is cash only—will go towards buying medicine for a Ukrainian military unit. According to the club, German artists Âme and Henrik Schwarz donated the costs for electricity and heating. Earlier this week, attacks intensified again in Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine as Russian forces sought revenge following an explosion that led to the partial collapse of the Crimean Bridge. Correction, October 14th: The start time for Closer's Saturday's party has been amended to 2 PM.
