  • Beloved record store Legram Vinyl Garden, located in a suburb of Lausanne, is closing down at the end of the year. Owned by DJs Oscar Conway (AKA Oscar VG) and Anaïs Liro, Legram VG sits in the sleepy commuter town of Renens. As Conway explained to Resident Advisor, the closure was inevitable. "When we moved into the spot we knew that at some point we'd get bad news, we just didn't know when," he said. "The local council who provided the building have been amazing with us though, we've had a solid relationship with them since the beginning. They come in all the time to eat in the restaurant downstairs and often have drinks after work—the mayor even bought a funk record once (€2). It's just people above them poring over graphs, generally not thinking about bodged-up, second-hand record stores. We just hope that the string pullers over the next spot are into their tunes." In the past three years, Legram VG has become a pillar in the Swiss scene despite Renens not being a place with "a huge demand for tunes," said Conway. He added: "To make it work, we've had to have a lot going on, with a restaurant, cafe and bar combo doing a lot of the heavy lifting. We've even had yoga classes in the shop until we needed the extra space for more records." While Conway and Liro are sad that their shop is being converted into luxury apartments, they already have plans to open another brick-and-mortar record store, this time in a new, undisclosed country. They've launched a fundraiser to support the move. "Another challenge has been to create a fun way to get behind us," said Conway. "We were very hesitant about crowdfunding, so we've spent the last couple of months getting all these special items ready." Current rewards for donations include "a Phase 2 USB loaded with the naughtiest edits that we've been making over the years, with the permissions and support from the original artists," said Conway. "We also have a 'Wall of Legends' in the next shop for names to be engraved into for any straight-up donations." Donate now, and enjoy one last party at Legram VG with Onur Özer on Saturday, October 29th.
