  • Teenage Engineering has a new device that cuts records. The retro-looking, USB-powered PO-80 Record Factory, released last week, engraves 5-inch discs with lo-fi sound. To record, users plug an audio device into the built-in 3.5mm jack before cutting. For playback, the PO-80 is equipped with built-in speakers. Alternatively, external speakers can be connected through the 3.5mm jack. Recording time is about four minutes for 33 RPM and three minutes for 45 RPM per disk side. Designed in collaboration with sound artist and designer Yuri Suzuki, currently a partner at design studio Pentagram, the PO-80 comes with a build-it-yourself kit containing needles and blank records. It's priced at $149. For more information, check Teenage Engineering's website.
