Kode9's new sonic fiction work explores Scotland's space race and UK politics

- Available in November, Astro-Darien is the latest instalment in the artist's sci-fi project.
- Hyperdub founder Steve Goodman, AKA Kode9, is releasing a 26-minute recording of sonic fiction called "Astro-Darien." Part audio essay, part documentary fiction, the piece uses vocals and music to tell a story about a video game designer dealing with Scotland’s failed attempts at colonisation in the 17th century and the political break-up of a contemporary UK. Other themes include Scotland's space colonisation program and the history of racial capitalism. "Astro-Darien" will be available from November 11th on vinyl and digitally via Flatlines, the Hyperdub sub-label focussing on books, audio essays and spoken word. This recording is the latest instalment in a multi-layered project about the same sci-fi narrative. It follows an audiovisual installation in London, a performance in Paris and Kode9's recent album, Escapalogy, which is the imagined score to the video game in "Astro-Darien." Goodman is now slated to perform a live audiovisual set at Unsound Festival next month.
