  • Vinyl is the UK's second best-selling physical entertainment format so far in 2022, according to the Entertainment Retailers Association. The ERA's figures say vinyl is second only to Nintendo Switch games, which are down 12.5 percent year-on-year while vinyl sales are up 12.2 percent. The trend follows years of continuing growth for vinyl. "Vinyl's rise and rise seems unstoppable," said ERA CEO Kim Bayley. "For a 74-year-old analogue format to eclipse the digital-age technology of games platforms is quite extraordinary. Ten years into its long climb back to favour, the vinyl revival is most definitely here to stay." According to ERA, vinyl has generated £80.9 million in sales so far in 2022, up from £72.1 million this time last year. Of all the cities in the UK, a study by the Royal Mint reveals that Glasgow has the most vinyl collectors at 32 percent. As for CDs, sales have been slowing so far in 2022 at £68.9 million, which is 8.1 percent less than this time last year. Vinyl has generated £12 million more in revenue than CDs in the UK, according to the figures. See the ERA's stats in full. Photo: Blocks
