  • Kangding Ray has a new album on the way called ULTRACHROMA. Speaking to Resident Advisor, the Berlin-based artist said he wanted his eighth studio LP "to be an oblique take on a possible psychedelic future: hyper-digital, intricate, nervous, but also colourful and ultimately really beautiful. It's the result of three years of sonic research into finding new directions to develop my music." Out in June, ULTRACHROMA will be Kangding Ray's first studio album on his ara label, which launched in 2019. It follows his soundtrack for the Berlin show SKALAR, a digital-only EP called Stock and 2019's Predawn Qualia EP. "Over time, I have gradually evolved from my early works of filigrane ambient to a much more club-focused sound," he added. "Now that I have my own platform with ara (about recording artists), I wanted to experiment further and beyond techno, leave some of my habits and compositional gestures behind, question my intentions, and then see what I can find that way." As well as being available digitally and on vinyl, ULTRACHROMA will span art editions, a series of NFTs, a permaweb archive and an audiovisual installation. Watch the video for "Pervinca Lucente," which was created by Bi-ceptual with dancers Laia Mora, Anna Altés and videographer Albert Carreras.
