French house pioneers Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon have announced a new production alias, Braxe + Falcon.
The duo will release their debut EP, Step By Step, on August 26th via Smugglers Way, a sub-label of Domino Music that specialises in electronic music. Spanning five tracks, the 12-inch includes a cameo by Animal Collective co-founder Panda Bear and will be available digitally as well as on vinyl. Two songs ("Step By Step" and "Creative Source") off the record are out now.
As solo artists in the late 90s and early 2000s, Braxe and DJ Falcon were key figures in a style of house music known as French Touch. Braxe was part of Stardust alongside Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and has remixed the likes of Beyoncé and Kylie Minogue. DJ Falcon also worked with Bangalter under the name Together and recently co-produced the Daft Punk single "Contact."
In a statement, Braxe and DJ Falcon explained how new instruments have helped them retain their D.I.Y spirit of earlier decades. "Using modular synthesizers in the production of our new music and the happy accidents they generate have helped us reconnect with the punk spirit of the early days, freeing ourselves from convention."
