- Arriving in February, the release includes liner notes by Chee Shimizu.
An unreleased album by Yasuaki Shimizu, a veteran of Japan's new wave scene, is on the way.
Recorded in 1984, Kiren features seven tracks that combine synth pop, new wave, jazz and experimental dance music. Deemed lost until recently, it's retrospectively considered a seminal point in the saxophonist and producer's illustrious career. The LP will finally be available to the public on February 25th via New York label Palto Flats.
The album, out digitally as well as on CD and vinyl, includes liner notes by record collector and DJ Chee Shimizu, who described it as one of the composer's "most energetic works."
Developed in collaboration with the late producer Aki Ikuta, Kiren was made two years after Shimizu's well-loved Kakashi album, reissued by Palto Flats in 2017. Shimizu was also a key force in Mariah, whose final album Utakata No Hibi, is one of the key records bringing attention to the '80s Japanese experimental music scene.
