The nine-track set "was defined by the search for a form to bind astrophysics phenomena, fiction and performance movements."
Noton head Alva Noto has launched a new series for "heterogeneous composition methods" called HYbr:ID.
HYbr:ID I, released on Friday, November 12th, comprises music commissioned for Oval, a choreographed piece performed by the Staatsballett Berlin at the Berlin State Opera in 2019. As has often been the case, Carsten Nicolai, who has collaborated extensively with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Ryoji Ikeda, operates at a crossroads of music, art and science.
"HYbr:ID Vol. 1 was defined by the search for a form to bind astrophysics phenomena, fiction, and performance movements," reads the press text. "Its narrative is inspired by cinematic visual techniques and static images portraying scientific events which also inspired the titles of the nine compositions." Sonically, the nine-track record integrates "static [as well as] deep sub-bass, gloomy sonics, spacious sound design and inorganic ambience."
Watch the visualizer for "oval p-dance."
