  • Sote and Shadi Ziaei are releasing an album from their Aastiage project called 1996-2000. The eight-track album combines Ziaei's lyrics, singing and acoustic guitar with Sote's electronics and production. The tracks were recorded over a five-year period at the end of the millennium and will be available on cassette and digital formats from the Zabte Sote label on November 5th. Sote rediscovered the recordings "a few weeks ago" and was "blown away by how good they still sound." Speaking about the project, he told Resident Advisor that "we were reuniting lyrical content with electronic music because during that particular era vocals with electronic music was pretty rare or if utilized, it was mostly some sort of dance music with a capella-style vocals on top... Some tracks are pure electronic, some are lo-fi sound collages of electric guitar and drums, processed with reel tape machines and re-edited in mini-disc recorders, then there is a bit of early extreme computer music techniques utilized in a pop context." You can pre-order the cassette and files on the Zabte Sote Bandcamp. Listen to "Flesh & Blood."
