The Medusa party in Shanghai is turning into a label this fall.
The first release on Medusa Records, which has a self-described goal to "connect the emerging Chinese queer community with a global audience," is Operatic Orgasm, the debut album from Medusa cofounder and resident Michael Cignarale. It's due on October 23rd.
Inspired by both contemporary Shanghai dance floors and '90s New York house, Operatic Orgasm heavily features Cignarale's vocals. In his words, it's "an attempt to capture what an hour with me as a performer feels like." An accompanying EP features remixes from Huan Huan and Knopha.
Cignarale and Medusa will embark on a tour of China through October and November, followed by the release of Cignarale's Goodnight EP. The label will also put out an EP from Enema Stone, called Makes Me Wet, this month.
