  • The Los Angeles City Council has passed a new ordinance requiring Covid-19 vaccination for patrons of bars, nightclubs and other indoor venues. The 11-2 vote states businesses must require proof of vaccination for customers entering a wide range of indoor businesses, including gyms, museums and bowling alleys, reported the Los Angeles Times. It'll go into full effect on November 4th, when customers will be required to show proof of full vaccination. (They'll need to show proof of at least one shot starting Thursday.) Covid-19 cases have dropped in Los Angeles County, with 61 percent of the residents vaccinated, though the region is still averaging 14 deaths a day from the virus. The new ordinance is the most encompassing in the state, covering movie theaters, nail salons and museums. It follows similar orders in San Francisco and Berkeley as well as New York City, where proof of vaccination is required to gather inside restaurants, bars, gyms and more. Fines against businesses that violate the ordinance will be levied starting at the end of the month. The ordinance is set to expire when the city of nearly four million lifts its emergency declaration. Under the Los Angeles County ordinance, customers can also submit a written exemption declaring religious or medical reasons they cannot take the vaccine, but they will be required to use outdoor facilities or otherwise provide a negative test to come inside.
