  • Palmbomen II will release an LP called Make A Film on his own World Of Paint label on October 1st. Visual elements have long been a part of Kai Hugo's musical practice. His first album, Palmbomen II, was made after watching X-Files, and his videos for that album were central to the record's characters and themes. The music on Make A Film was composed for various films between 2016 and 2019 in Los Angeles—where Hugo lived for five years—in the Netherlands or on the road with the gear he uses for his live set, Roland JV1010, Korg EX-800 and a x0xb0x. Many of the tracks were made when Hugo was working on a scored for Jawline—a film about social media kids—as well as a documentary about New York disco soundsystems. "It's of course kind of a joke to present a course in film making based on this music," Hugo says. "But I like to give the music away to people and let them use it to create something. That is also in the end the thing with this package, people can use it for whatever they like, as long as it's not a commercial project." Listen to clips from Make A Film.
