  • The recently closed TXL airport in Berlin is hosting a sound art festival. Running from August 21st until September 5th in terminals A and B, Sonambiente Berlin TXL is billed as a festival for "eyes and ears" and as "a farewell to Berlin TXL." There are talks, audio compositions, a virtual reality installation and sound performances from artists including Laurie Anderson & Hsin-Chien Huang, Emeka Ogboh, Blixa Bargeld, Felix Kubin, Scanner and Electric Indigo. The airport, which closed in November 2020, was a favourite among DJs and touring artists due to the short time needed to pass through. Its terminal building will soon be converted into the Berlin University of Applied Sciences. The airfield will become the Urban Tech Republic research and industrial park and the new Schumacher-Quartier residential district. Sonambiente festival has taken place twice before, across different venues, in 1996 and 2006. Tickets are available here.
