  • Music and cultural groups in Berlin are planning a peaceful protest on June 12th to speak out against the city's policies around housing and cultural venues. The event aims to shed light on "the rapid disappearance of socio-cultural venues, clubs, self-determined housing and free spaces," according to an official description. These areas "are crucial for Berlin's unique identity and urban resilience." DJs DVS1, Freddy K and Marum (among others) will play at the rally, which starts at Alexanderplatz and is expected to last all day. Social distancing and masks will be in effect. Participants must take a Covid-19 test before joining. Organisers, which include Studio dB, Kollektiv Spieltrieb and Love Foundation, listed a few goals for the protest. One is a task force, "through which spaces under threat can mediate with politics, administration and property investors under equal terms." They also aim to "improve the access and bureaucratic conditions for non commercial social and cultural events in public and outdoors spaces" as well increase overall community involvement in urban development.
