  • NFTs, avatars and other disruptive technologies impacting the music industry will be analysed in a new virtual workshop program from Berlin collective CO:QUO. Launching next week, Music Futures & Simulacra: Exploring Without a Map focuses on "new futures for the music industry," according to a press release. Events are free and take place throughout June via Zoom. Participants can also discuss findings and connect on the program's Discord server. The first session, taking place on June 16th at 6 PM CET and 5 PM BST, explores the benefits, risks and consequences of musicians using NFTs. Panellists include journalist Cherie Hu, who recently published a comprehensive report on the topic, sound designer/artist Chloe Alexandra Thompson, researcher/artist Mat Dryhurst and Michail Stangl of crypto marketplace Zora, among others. The next workshop, happening on June 23rd at the same time, is about the legacy and presence of avatars across music communities. The program concludes with a Discord discussion room on June 30th featuring culture publication New Models.
