  • EXP___, a global program connecting experimental artists through networking and educational programs, is back with a second edition of its annual competition. This year, producers of any genre in Berlin, Detroit and Los Angeles are invited to submit solo pieces to a jury for a chance to win cash and production tools from Native Instruments, Elektron, Ableton, Orchestral Tools and other software brands. Acts are also encouraged to collaborate with one another on audio or audiovisual works. These will be submitted to a jury, with winning selections eligible for cash, software, micro grants, consulting and mentor sessions. Jury members include Shaun J. Wright, Timo Maas, Resident Advisor staff writer Kiana Mickles, the Beirut Synthesizer Center, Elektron, Fourculture Magazine, the Goethe-Institut Chicago and MUTEK San Francisco, among others. Also on tap are virtual workshops hosted by the likes of Tokyo-based producer XLII, Orchestral Tools, Beirut Synthesizer Center, Elektron and composer KamranV, among others. These will be open to the general public via Zoom. For updates, follow EXP's Facebook group. This year's competition is organised by Los Angeles radio station dublab, Berlin-based events group Your Mom’s Agency and Detroit collective BULK. Funding is provided by Germany's government via Wunderbar Together, an initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office and Goethe-Institut. The program runs until October and submission deadlines are monthly. Interested participants can join EXP's Facebook group for more information.
