  • Several sober musicians are featured in a new publication that aims to help artists give up alcohol and drugs. Available online as a free download, Sober 21 contains interviews with Nile Rodgers, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Run-DMC, Mix Master Mike of Beastie Boys and Moby who detail their experiences as former addicts and their road to recovery. LCD Soundsystem's Tyler Pope, Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order, Jennifer Cardini, John Grant and Richard Lloyd of Television also wrote essays for the zine, sharing insights and advice about working in the music industry as a sober professional. The project is compiled and edited by radio host and podcast producer Elia Einhorn and published by The Creative Independent. Einhorn explained her goals in the zine's opening remarks. "Sober 21 isn't going to tell you how to sober up ...Instead, its intent is to help you more easily navigate your new reality, and hopefully avoid dozens of potential pitfalls along the way." "Our goal is to help other alcoholic/drug-addicted musicians see the amazing freedom, and benefit to our art, that we found in sobriety by sharing our own experiences," Einhorn continued. "We also hope to help them understand how widespread sobriety in the music industry really is." Sober 21 will soon be available in print form. To download a PDF copy, visit the official website.
