  • Sky Dietrich, the founder of a festival rooted in the music of Black, brown and queer communities, needs help to stay out of court. In a recently published crowdfunder video, Dietrich (AKA Sky Deep) explains that a series of incidents in 2017 caused the Reclaim The Beats festival to sink into debt. A racist incident at the usual venue meant she had to change venues at her own expense, before a tornado on the opening night of the event "killed ticket sales." Dietrich is now liable for thousands of euros worth of debt, which she has two weeks to pay before the German government could seize her possessions, as well as freezing her bank account. "I am now reaching out to the community for support," she says. "I created a community event. I cannot handle this alone." Dietrich aims to raise €3,780. At the time of writing, the fundraiser is on €535. Watch the video, and donate here.
