  • SOPHIE is behind the production of Miami duo Basside's new EP. Fuck It Up is slated to arrive on April 4th through New York label Sorry Records. The record was produced during a short session in SOPHIE's Los Angeles studio after the late producer saw the pair perform at iii Points Festival. Containing six tracks, the EP opens with SOPHIE's remix of Basside's "NYC2MIA," which was released after SOPHIE's passing with all proceeds going toward the Sylvia Rivera Project, a New York-based legal aid organization that aims to protect people of color who identify as trans or intersex. "We've waited way too long to let this song out," Basside said about the track upon its release last month. "We had a few road bumps that made it difficult for us, and we kind of just felt like we had all the time in the world. The tragic passing of SOPHIE has made us realize that time is precious, and waiting for a hypothetical future we know nothing about is the wrong way to live. All we have is the present." Basside is a Miami bass duo comprising childhood friends Que Linda and Caro Loka. SOPHIE, whose groundbreaking productions catalyzed the hyperpop movement, passed away in January after a fatal rooftop fall in Athens, Greece. Read our memorial feature on SOPHIE.
