  • The Orb's Alex Paterson has a busy year planned, starting with the launch of his new label, Orbscure Recordings. Launched as a sub-label of Cooking Vinyl, the new outlet will serve as a vehicle for Paterson's various collaborations as well as artists from Uganda, Kenya, Argentina, Japan and America. "The name is a play on the Obscure label Eno set up on Editions EG in the 1970s," Paterson said. The label will launch with The Heavens by Sedibus, AKA Paterson and original The Orb member Andy Falconer, who engineered and co-wrote the ambient sides of the 1991 ambient house landmark The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. After reconnecting at Space Mountain Festival in Spain in 2019, Paterson and Falconer decided to collaborate for the first time in 30 years. The Heavens is described as a "long-distance work with audio files, ideas and inspirations flying back and forth between England and Germany via email, telephone and the airwaves of WNBC radio." The album is out May 28th, the same day as a new Paterson biography, Babble On An' Ting: Alex Paterson's Incredible Journey Beyond The Ultraworld With The Orb, hits the shelves. Written by his close friend and music journalist Kris Needs, the book runs over Paterson's entire life story and includes interviews with Youth, Andrew Weatherall, Primal Scream, Jah Wobble and Jimmy Cauty.
