  • Elektron's Machinedrum has received an unofficial firmware update. Originally introduced in 2001, the Machinedrum can claim to be one of the classic electronic instruments released in the 21st century. It was discontinued in 2016 and the last official update was back in 2012, but it remains a fixture in studios and popular on the secondhand market. Yatao Li and Justin Valer developed the new firmware to address the Machinedrum's continuing relevance, introducing numerous features requested by users on Elektron's Elektronauts forum. The introduction of new oscillator waveforms and the ability to pitch them with a quarter-tone, equal-tempered tuning scale greatly expands the synthesis potential. New LFO shapes, the ability to preview triggers and a solo mode are also included. You can download the firmware for free from Elektronauts. Watch Dataline testing out the new firmware.
