  • DJ and producer John "Jay" Shepheard has published a debut novel inspired by the UK music and club industries. The Times charts the rise and fall of five-piece rave act The Times, who find stardom in the '90s before splitting up at the turn of the century. Written from the point of view of each band member, the novel maps out the different paths they take: suburban family life, illicit affairs, veganism and alcoholism all feature. Shepheard worked in the music industry before releasing and touring as a professional DJ and producer. He began writing The Times after a near-death experience in 2018, which put him in a three-day coma and required critical surgery. "I feel I've been a writer my whole life," he says. "I just hadn't written anything down until now." Published by Fifty Seven Press, The Times is available now via Amazon or you can buy a copy at Berlin spots Cafe Mugrabi and The Ghost record shop.
