  • PLAYdifferently is releasing a four-channel version of the MODEL 1 DJ mixer. Arriving almost four years after the release of the original MODEL 1, the MODEL 1.4 is more compact and less expensive than its six-channel predecessor while offering the same analogue design. Key features from the original, including parametric EQ, hi- and low-pass filters plus overdrive circuit per channel, dual cue system and a master isolator, are retained in the new version. The MODEL 1.4 was again engineered by Andy Rigby-Jones, who also developed the Xone series of DJ mixers, with co-design from DJ Richie Hawtin. Of the new mixer, Hawtin says, "We always felt a compact version would be welcomed in home studios and perfect for streaming. At a more affordable price, but with no compromise to the purity of design and components, this is a smaller format MODEL 1 with four channels, perfect for the home, as a compact club mixer, or as a nimble tour instrument." MODEL 1.4 is expected to ship in January 2021 for $2,299. Watch a promo video for the MODEL 1.4.
