- Somewhere Between, out in January, features tracks from Dip In The Pool, Mkwaju Ensemble and more.
Light In The Attic's Japan Archival Series continues with a new compilation out next January 22nd.
The label says that Somewhere Between: Mutant Pop, Electronic Minimalism & Shadow Sounds Of Japan 1980–1988 is a cross between last year's acclaimed Kankyō Ongaku, focusing on ambient music, and the two Pacific Breeze compilations of Japanese city pop.
Somewhere Between features minimalist ambient music, electronics and leftfield pop, including Dip In The Pool (whose "On Retinae" reissue got the RA Recommends stamp of approval in 2016), Midori Takada's Mkwaju Ensemble, Noriko Miyamoto and Mishio Ogawa, plus a selection of cuts from cult Osaka label Vanity Records. This is the first time that much of this material has been released outside of Japan.
The compilation was co-curated by Dublab's Mark "Frosty" McNeill and Light In The Attic reissue producer Yosuke Kitazawa.
The Japan Archival series began in 2017 with a collection of Japanee folk rock. Since then, in addition to Kankyō Ongaku and Pacific Breeze, the label has also put out several reissues of Yellow Magic Orchestra member Haruomi Hosono as well as Hiroshi Yoshimura's 1986 album GREEN.
