Composer and pianist Harold Budd has reportedly died at the of age of 84.
Social media posts lauding the late artist appeared on social media on Tuesday, December 8th, dating Budd's death to the day before. No cause of death is known, but Brooklyn Vegan reports that Budd's close friends had confirmed his death on Facebook.
Budd was probably best known for his early '80s work with Brian Eno—the first being the second in Eno's groundbreaking Ambient series, The Plateaux Of Mirror, along with 1984's The Pearl—that established a style that was both minimalist and heavily atmospheric.
Later in life, he collaborated with artists like Daniel Lanois, Akira Rabelais and Cocteau Twins guitarist Robin Guthrie, who Budd just released an album with last week. His soundtrack work includes the film A Mysterious Skin and the 2020 HBO show I Know This Much is True.
Budd also put out a number of solo albums, notably 1978's The Pavilion Of Dreams, produced by Brian Eno.
